Oh, how this makes me happy. In honor of Annabelle Creation coming out TODAY, I am going to mention some other movies on the way.
I’m not terribly concerned about Annabelle 3. I will watch it simply because I have seen all of the other related movies and there just aren’t enough films of this genre in mainstream theater.
So that brings us to Leatherface. If I am counting correctly, this is the 8th film in the series, and also another reboot. The original is of course a classic, and I enjoyed the two films from 15 years ago – even though Michael Bay was involved. You just can’t beat R. Lee Ermey. I have high hopes for this new one, and took notice that both Lili Taylor and Stephen Dorff are in leading roles. Both have backgrounds in the horror genre. Lili did a great job in The Conjuring, one of the best horror films of the modern era. Old guys like me will remember Deacon Frost…um, I mean Stephen Dorff’s work in FearDotCom. As long as it’s better than Texas Chainsaw 3D, I’ll be happy.
Waiting 10 Years for Jigsaw! Say what you will, but I loved the SAW franchise. John Kramer is at the top of the Super Awesome Antagonist list. We finally get another installment, a prequel/reboot if you will, to continue Kramer’s story. Tobin Bell himself returns as John/Jigsaw and I am ready to line up at the theater. The Spierig brothers were in the director’s chair(s), and that’s not a bad thing. This pair of Aussie’s brought us 2009’s Daybreakers, with Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill and Ethan Hawke. (Thier IMDB page says only that they were born in Germany, but trust me – they’re Australian). They’re no James Wan, but I am confident that they can do a decent job. Especially since the last seven films had four different directors. Hopefully they don’t have a transition scene fetish like Darren Lynn Bousman.
This October is gonna ROCK for movies.
