If you don`t drain the grease when cooking ground beef, you are probably eating a whole lot more fat than you realize. I`ll show you just how much of the stuff comes out of 1.5lbs of 85% from the grocery store.

After browning the beef, I separate the grease with a colander. That itself looks gross, but to really illustrate the point, I solidified it into a block of fat in the freezer.

Some people are not fans of removing the grease, as it provides flavor and texture. I do this with seasonings, because I find the thought of chomping down all that fat is rather terrible.

You`ll notice I used 85% ground beef, which is pretty common. Where I live, you can buy up to 93%, but the results are similar. If you use the stuff that comes in a pre-packaged log, which is around 53% or so, the block of fat you get is literally almost half of the product with which you started.

I`m not a health nut by any stretch of the imagination, but you should DRAIN YOUR MEAT as far as I am concerned.
