If you live in Florida, you are probably aware of this. For everyone else: they have wild pythons all over the place. Yeah, as in `giant snakes that can eat you`.
There are tens of thousands (and maybe a great deal more) of Burmese pythons slithering in the Everglades. The numbers have drastically increased over the last 20 years. These things average 16 feet in length and can take down an alligator if they so choose.
Not only are they an invasive species with no natural enemies, but they are also apex predators. This is a problem.
So how did giant snakes native to southeast Asia end up flourishing in Florida? People are stupid. The source of the Burmese python problem is pet stores. Imagine trying to keep a 16 foot snake. Once they get too big, their owners would let them loose in the wild. It didn`t take long for the population to skyrocket.
As if alligators and crocodiles weren`t bad enough, now Florida has freaking pythons. I`ll stay in the mountains.
