The title character from that 1995 Ted Nugent song was actually a real guy. I don`t know how I didn`t know that. It took me 25 years lol.

I swear the Thursday night DJ would always play this song because it`s nearly 8 minutes long. It`s about ol` Ted Nugent metaphorically hunting in the woods with Fred Bear. I always just assumed that it was Ted`s spirit animal or perhaps an actual bear he named Fred.

Fred Bear was a real guy. A very real, very famous guy in the world of archery. On top of that, he was born in Pennsylvania in 1902 - so I learned two things.

This is actually ridiculous, because I have personally owned and shot bows made by his company. It never occurred to me that Bear Archery was named after somebody.

Fred passed away in 1988, so the song kind of takes on a new meaning when you know it is about a real, deceased person.
