You know those cheap mouse traps with the red \"V\" and the fake plastic cheese? Billions of those have been made - in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
The Victor mouse trap has been manufactured in Lititz, PA by John Mast`s company for about 120 years. Mast didn`t invent the mouse trap, of course, nor did he come up with that particular design. He did own the patents, the companies, and had the manufacturing muscle to be the one most remembered, however.
According the their own story on the company website, John Mast got into the mouse trap business because he had property adjacent to a popcorn factory. Lots of mice were attracted to something like that, and he had to take care of the problem.
I don`t know if a popcorn factory is a thing, but Lancaster County is kind of the snack food capital of the world. I say `kind of` because Lancaster has a ton of pretzel and chip companies, but Hanover is in York County, and Snyder`s of Hanover is second to only Frito Lay in snack food manufacturing.
Victor also makes a large variety of modern traps, non-lethal traps, even electronic traps.
So if you have ever used a mouse trap, there`s a good chance it was made in Pennsylvania.
GO PA!
