Wellsboro is a super-quaint tourist town in northcentral Pennsylvania. Many more people visit than actually live here. If you haven`t ventured too far from the hotels, here are some things you may not have noticed.
There are so many examples... this is going to be part one of a series.

One of the first things I noticed walking around town years ago is that all the fire hydrants are silver and blue. Since I didn`t know anything about this kind of thing, I assumed it was an aesthetic choice.
As it turns out, fire hydrants are originally made yellow, and then color-coded depending on how much water they can deliver. Red hydrants are actually the lowest capacity. Those marked with blue can put out three times more than the red ones.
The town`s most famous park is known as The Green, with a big statue and fountain at the center. Don`t tell anybody, but the sculpture of Wynken, Blynken, and Nod was actually mass-produced and you can find exact copies of it all over the country. A Google search would suggest that the one in Wellsboro might be the most photographed however.
Wellsboro is an easy town to traverse on foot, and that is a great thing because parking is scarce. Nearly all available parking is metered and the lots on Pearl Street have to be shared by tourists, shoppers and local workers alike. If you are here for a visit, you may want to leave your vehicle at one of the hotels and walk downtown.
