More things you may not have noticed in Wellsboro, PA. Every time I actually pay attention, I see more and more examples of nifty things about the town. Part two of the series.
Remember a time when everyone didn`t have a phone in their pocket? Public phone booths used to be very necessary, but are pretty much a relic of the past these days. You can still find them in downtown Wellsboro and other locations throughout the county. Don`t try to make a call though. If Clark Kent ever comes for a visit, I`m sure he`d appreciate a handy phone booth.
Even though the town is relatively old, the main street is exceptionally wide. There is parking on both sides and you can easily open your door into traffic with little worry. There are only two turning-specific lanes in the whole town, but there is plenty of room. Especially if you include the wide center median with all the gaslights.
Speaking of gaslights...
I didn`t mention them in my first video and people noticed. The gaslights may be the most iconic thing about Wellsboro, and there are a lot of them. Both Center Avenue, West Avenue, and Main Street all have rows of lights down the middle.
There are many other locations as well. You`ll find gaslights in parking lots, private homes, random places downtown, and there are several on The Green. Every one of them is powered by natural gas, so there is light even during massive electrical outages - which happen more often than you would think.
