This little piece of sports trivia was brought to my attention by my friend Matt West several years ago, and I am finally writing about it.

Professional sports are big in the U.S., especially the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL. Hundreds of games are played every year by these organizations alone, not to mention all the other professional sports of varying validity.

Typically, there are only two days a year where none of the big four has a single game going on. Hockey, basketball, and football are all out of season - so baseball has something to do with it.

The answer is: the day immediately before, and the day immediately after the annual All Star Game (July 18th and 20th, 2022).

This is because by nature of the game, players from teams all over the country have to travel to and from the venue (which is in Los Angeles this year).  So, with all the other organizations out of season, there are no games on those days.

Since I try to be thorough, I will mention that some years that number doubles. If the NBA All Star Game falls completely within the NHL season hiatus, then there are two additional days for travel that year. This does not happen very often.

None of this bothers me in the least. However, if you are like my father who needs to watch sports every day to survive, then you need to find an alternative.

I mentioned in the video that he will probably watch replays of last weekend`s British Open.  I didn`t call it \"The Open\" because that is even worse. It is, in fact, an invitational. Definitely not an open either way.
