The first time we see Erick Avari in either franchise is as the Klingon B`iJik during the fifth season of TNG. His most prominent `Trek role was probably Vedek Yarka from DS9`s Destiny episode. He also played Jamin in Terra Nova from Enterprise - these were all from the 90`s.

Avari also appeared on SG-1 as Daniel Jackson`s father-in-law from the planet Abydos named Kasuf a total of three times. BUT BEFORE THAT he played that exact same character in the Stargate feature film four years earlier. Of course back then Daniel Jackson was played by James Spader instead of Michael Shanks.

John de Lancie would bring us the omnipotent trickster Q on Star Trek a total of twenty-two times from the 1980`s to the 2020`s. We first saw him in the TNG premier Encounter at Farpoint and the `Trek Universe would never be the same. Q would show up on the Enterprise-D eight times, once on Deep Space Nine, and three times on Voyager. Fast-forward nearly twenty years and we`ll see Q again, animated on Lower Decks and nine appearances on Picard.

With Richard Dean Anderson, de Lancie would portray antagonist Colonel Frank Simmons for five episodes of SG-1. (he was also on MacGyver!). Like Robert Picardo, John de Lancie is also from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!

Robert Picardo is well-known in the Star Trek Universe for his portrayal of the Emergency Medical Hologram Mark I and all of it`s variants on both Voyager and Deep Space Nine - as well a the Enterprise-E EMH in the feature film First Contact. Much like Brent Spiner, Picardo also played the creator of his main character, Dr. Lewis Zimmerman - also on both Voyager and Deep Space Nine.

Over in Stargate Land, Picardo is Richard Woolsey, who was rather unlikable at first - but ended up being a pretty great character. He would appear as Woolsey on seven episodes of SG-1, and 26 times on Atlantis - where at one point would take command of the expedition to the Pegasus galaxy.

Those `Trek episodes where the Doctors sings opera? Yeah, Picardo can really do that. Oh yeah, he`s from Pennsylvania!

We learned to hate Ronny Cox`s characters in the 80`s from Robocop and Total Recall (both also featured Star Trek alumni). 1992 comes along and we get the excellent TNG two-parter: Chain of Command (TNG: 6x10 & 6x11). Mr. Cox portrays Captain Jellico, and he relieves Captain Picard of command and takes control of the Enterprise. Of course, we don`t like that, but wait until he gets a role on Stargate. There he plays Senator/Vice President/ President Kinsey, and he is so unpalatable that he even becomes possessed by a Goa`uld. This is a character he plays in 11 episodes, and also reprises the voice of Captain Jellico for 8 episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy from 2022-2024 (well into his 80`s).

Starting off this series with the earliest Trek/Gate crossover (since the original Stargate movie didn`t come along until 1994) - Leon Rippy. The veteran character actor portrayed L.Q. "Sonny" Clemmons in the The Neutral Zone (TNG: 1x25 - 1988). A 20th century throwback country music star cryogenically frozen and thawed out in the 24th century. Data even had a guitar replicated for him. When Stargate hit theaters, he was also Major General W. O. West who was the military commander of the Stargate Program - and the superior officer to Kurt Russel`s Colonel Jack O`Neill.
