Camels Are From South Dakota i dunno? 240529

Modern camels are a long way from where they began.

When most of us think of camels, the deserts of Africa or the Middle East probably come to mind. That
makes sense, as that’s where you will find camels today.

But that’s not where they originated, not even close. The first camels actually came from what is today
South Dakota about 50 million years ago. Kind of weird, huh? Eventually they migrated to Asia across
the Bering land bridge about 7 million years ago.

Camels ended up dying out in North America of course, but live on in South America as llamas and
alpacas and animals like that.

I bet you didn’t know that… unless you happen to be a camel expert.
