Copper Kill Germs Why? i dunno? 240520

I don’t know, but it does.

You probably know that doorknobs were commonly made of brass back in the day because brass
is an alloy of copper, and copper kills germs. But why? I dunno.

People knew about this long before we even knew that microorganisms were a thing. That answer? No one
really knows… but scientists are still looking into it. So far the best they have come up with is that
copper emits ions that mess with cell membranes or bacteria and things, but they’re not sure.

You know what else does this? Mercury, Lead, Zinc, Gold and Silver, Bismuth, and Aluminum. All things
you don’t want to eat.
