Star Trek Actors in the Stargate Universe – Part Four – Learn Stuff

Star Trek and Stargate are two of the most successful science fiction franchises of all time. With well over 1000 television episodes between them (not to mention movies), it should come as no surprise that many actors have played roles in both universes. Some have had only single appearances, while others played major roles in both franchises. This is the last list of this series, so it is a bit longer and includes a bonus!

Connor Trinneer

Like Robert Picardo, Connor Trinneer portrayed major characters in both the Star Trek and Stargate franchises. He was Commander Charles ‘Trip’ Tucker on 97 episodes of Enterprise from 2001-2005. On Stargate Atlantis, Trinneer was the Wraith/Human hybrid Michael Kennemore for ten episodes. He was also Professor Langford in the Stargate Origins shorts.

Marc Worden

Marc Worden is one of only a few actors to play two different Klingons on Star Trek (John Schuck and J.G. Hertzler also come to mind). He was Worf’s son Alexander Rozhenko twice on Deep Space Nine, and also played a Klingon prisoner on the Enterprise episode “Affliction”. On SG-1, Worden played the Jaffa traitor Ronan on “Lost City: Part 2”.

Wallace Shawn

Inconceivable! Sorry, I couldn’t resist a Princess Bride reference. Wallace Shawn portrayed the Ferengi Grand Nagus Zek on seven episodes of Deep Space Nine. He was also on the SG-1 episode “The Ties That Bind” in 2005 as Arlos.

Paul McGillion

Paul McGillion is one of the few actors on these lists that was actually on Stargate far more than Star Trek. In fact, he was only on ‘Trek once (for a few seconds), as the Barracks Leader in the 2009 movie. McGillion got his start with Stargate as Young Ernest Littlefield in the 1997 SG-1 episode “The Torment of Tantalus”. He’d return as Dr. Carson Beckett for 62 episodes of Stargate Atlantis.

Anthony Montgomery

Anthony Montgomery was Ensign Travis Mayweather (and MACO Sergeant Mayweather in the Mirror Universe) on 97 episodes of Enterprise from 2001-2005. Like Paul McGillion, but in reverse, he makes this list with a cameo on SG-1 as a mover in Daniel Jackson’s apartment in “Forever in a Day”. This role was uncredited, and I can’t even find an image of Montgomery in the scene.

David Ogden Stiers

Another actor that was in the Stargate Universe more than ‘Trek, David Ogden Stiers played Timicin on a single episode of TNG called “Half a Life” back in 1991. On SG-1, Stiers was the Replicator Oberoth for three episodes from 2006-2007. Like René Auberjonois from a previous list, Stiers is no longer with us as he passed away in 2018.

Alan Ruck

Making single appearances in both franchises, Alan Ruck was Captain John Harriman in the 1994 film Star Trek: Generations. He also played Dr. Fletcher in the 2006 Stargate Atlantis episode “The Real World”.

Professor Stephen Hawking

It should be no surprise that one of the greatest minds of our time had cameos on two of the greatest science fiction franchises of all time. In 1993, Professor Hawking appeared as himself in a holodeck scene on the TNG episode “Descent”. For Stargate, it gets a little complicated. On the 2008 Stargate Atlantis episode “Brain Storm”, Hawking appeared with Neil Degrasse Tyson and Bill Nye. The thing is, you never see his face and from the back it doesn’t really look like him. The internet says he has an uncredited role, so he’s on this list anyway. Unfortunately we lost Professor Hawking in 2018.

Marina Sirtis

Oh Counselor Troi, how I thought of you when I was younger. Marina Sirtis portrayed the Betazoid character in 176 episodes of The Next Generation, four feature films, Voyager, Enterprise, Continues, Lower Decks and Picard. In 2000, she joined the Stargate canon as Russian Dr. Svetlana Markov on the SG-1 episode “Watergate”.

BONUS! Leon Rippy

Leon Rippy is the only actor on any of these lists that makes it because he was in the original Stargate movie in 1994, but none of the television shows. In the film, he played General W.O. West. Several years before that, he was L.Q. “Sonny” Clemmons on the TNG episode “The Neutral Zone” in 1988.
