Hundreds of actors have portrayed characters in the Star Trek Universe, and it is common to see them in other roles. Sometimes you’ll find that a show features several actors from Star Trek, often purely by coincidence.

Back in 1995, a really quirky comic book adaptation movie came out called Tank Girl. It bombed at the box office, and for good reason… it’s bad. A cult classic now – but great character actors, Ice T, and hard work by Stan Winston’s crew just couldn’t make it work. One interesting fact about Tank Girl is that it featured six actors from the Star Trek Universe.

Doug Jones

Doug Jones was not the recognized name in 1995 that he is now. His body of work is quite extensive today, including many characters under the direction of Guillermo del Toro. He was one of the Rippers in Tank Girl, and is currently rather famous as Lieutenant Commander Saru on Star Trek Discovery.

Iggy Pop

From his music to his acting choices, Iggy Pop’s career is interesting to say the least. He played the Rat Face character in Tank Girl, and is pretty recognizable. A few years later he played the Vorta Yelgrun in the DS9 episode The Magnificent Ferengi. Heavy prosthetics disguise him a bit, but his voice and mannerisms are unmistakable.

Ann Cusack

It may seem a bit odd to think of Ann Cusack in either Tank Girl or Star Trek, but she was in both. She portrayed Sub Girl and later was Maggie in the Enterprise episode Carbon Creek. I particularly note this installment because T’Pol recounts an alternate version of First Contact, and the events take place in Pennsylvania.

Malcolm McDowell

It should be no surprise that veteran actor Malcolm McDowell would make his way onto a KellyPlanet Star Trek list. He makes a heck of a bad guy, and plays Kesslee in Tank Girl. McDowell entered the Star Trek Universe in the TOS/TNG crossover feature film Generations as Dr. Tolian Soran. It caused quite an uproar when fans found out he was responsible for the death of beloved Captain Kirk. I’d like to also note that like fellow Trek actor Meg Foster, McDowell has appeared in Rob Zombie films – Halloween, Halloween II and 31.

Jeff Kobor

Tank Girl’s love interest and freaky mutant Booga was played by Jeff Kobor. He was on Star Trek twice – the first time as Iko (pictured) on Voyager. His second round in the Star Trek Universe was as Treag in the Enterprise episode The Shadows of P’Jem.

Lori Petty

Even Tank Girl herself was on Star Trek. That’s right, Lori Petty would play Noss, mostly opposite Tim Russ’s Tuvok on an episode of Voyager. What impressed me about her performance is that she spoke a made-up alien language for most of the show.

If you have some time to kill, check out Tank Girl. I’m telling you right now, it’s out there. Way out there. Stan Winston’s practical effects are always great, and as I mentioned earlier, it is considered a cult classic. If nothing else, you’ll get to see a bunch of actors you will find on Star Trek!
