The very first Mortal Kombat movie came out in 1995 and Shang Tsung was portrayed by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. Eight years prior, Tagawa was in the very first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (‘Encounter at Farpoint [1987]).

Tagawa’s character was the Mandarin Bailiff in Q’s court that held a trail against the Enterprise crew for ‘the crimes of humanity’. He was also featured in other shows of which I am a fan, like Stargate SG-1 and MacGyver (1987).
