Water towers have a really important function that I had no idea about.

I always thought water towers were just a fancy way to store water. And they are, but they have a whole
other purpose I wasn’t aware of.

In my defense, I have never lived in a place that had a water tower and I got my water from a well
most of my life.

If your water source isn’t at a sufficiently higher elevation than your population,
the tap won’t work so well. So water towers maintain enough water pressure in the system even if the
power goes out because of how gravity works.

Cities with really tall buildings put water towers on the roof somewhere for the same reason.

And here I just figured people thought it was cool to put huge water tanks way up in the air.
