Star Trek Actors in the Stargate Universe – Part One – Learn Stuff

Star Trek and Stargate are two of the most successful science fiction franchises of all time. With well over 1000 television episodes between them (not to mention movies), it should come as no surprise that many actors have played roles in both universes. Some have had only single appearances, while others played major roles in both franchises. The total list is quite extensive, so let’s check out part one.

Ronnie Cox

Captain Jellico is famous as one of the few people to command the Enterprise-D during Picard’s tenure. Ronnie Cox also played Senator Robert Kinsey eleven times on Stargate SG1. I mentioned this in another article, but Cox seems to always do unlikable characters. I bet he is a super nice guy in real life.

Erick Avari

One of the few characters that made it from the big screen to the Stargate television series was Kasuf,  portrayed by Erick Avari. He also has three ‘Trek credits to his name, all on different shows. First playing the Klingon B’iJik on The Next Generation, Avari was also Vedek Yarka on Deep Space Nine and Jamin on Enterprise.

Armin Shimerman

No one has worn the Ferengi makeup more than Armin Shimerman. He portrayed that character Quark on seven seasons of Deep Space Nine, but ‘Trek’s favorite bartender also appeared on The Next Generation and Voyager. Shimerman also has been DaiMon Bractor, Gift-Box Face, Herbert Rossoff, and Audrid Dax. On SG1, he was a member of a species known as the Nox named Anteus for two episodes.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

Probably best-known as Shang Tsung from the original Mortal Kombat movie, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was the bailiff in Q’s court on the pilot episode of The Next Generation. A decade later, was played Turghan on an episode of Stargate SG1.

Larry Drake

I first saw Larry Drake as the antagonist in the cult classic movie Darkman, but he was in both of these sci-fi franchises. He played Chellick on Voyager‘s “Critical Care” in 2000 and later Burrock on SG1’s “Beast of Burden” in 2001.

Dean Stockwell

Most people recognize Dean Stockwell from his time on Quantum Leap. In 2002, he joined his co-star Scott Bakula on an episode of Enterprise as Colonol Grat. The same year he joined the Stargate club as Doctor Kieran in “Shadow Play”.

Scott MacDonald

This guy has a lot of Star Trek credits under his belt. His first foray was as the Romulan Subcommander N’vek in The Next Generation. He pulled double-duty on DS9 as both the Jem’Hadar Goran’Agar and Tosk. Usually in heavy makeup, he got to look like himself as a regular Starfleet guy named Rollins on Voyager. MacDonald’s most consistent role was that of a Xindi Insectoid Commander Dolim on eight episodes of Enterprise. Around the same time in 2003, Scott played Golon Jareth on a single episode of Stargate:SG1.

Colm Meaney

Colm Meaney has a very interesting Star Trek career. He was in the very first episode of The Next Generation as an unnamed character. As the popularity of the show grew, that character become Transporter Chief Miles O’Brien. The Irish actor would end up being in a total of 52 episodes before transitioning to a primary role for seven years on Deep Space Nine. He would later portray the character Cowen in four episodes of Stargate from 2004-2008.
