Nearly a decade before he would be Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa appeared in the very first TNG episode Encounter at Farpoint as part of Q`s court. He portrayed the \"Mandarin Bailiff\". Like Tamlyn Tomita in my last post - Tagawa is from Japan, not China.
Two years after Shang Tsung, Tagawa appeared in the first season of Stargate SG-1 as Turghan - a Genghis Khan type of character - that would probably be considered culturally inappropriate these days (much like the Mandarin Bailiff).
