Burger King’s Chicken Sandwiches – Learn Stuff

It seems to me that Burger King entered the “chicken sandwich wars” with a “go big” philosophy – and they certainly have. The Home of the Whopper has always offered chicken on their menu, but these days their flagship line is absolutely massive. You’ll see.

First of all, BK’s chicken menu has comparatively more calories than anything McDonald’s or Wendy’s has to offer. We’re talking chicken sandwiches with more calories than Wendy’s largest triple bacon cheeseburger, or twice that of the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Let’s start with the lightest menu item and work our way up.

The first three on this list all come with a processed chicken patty, chopped lettuce, and a mayonnaise sauce on a sesame seed bun. The Spicy Chicken Jr. isn’t too bad at 386 calories (I’d pick the spicy one anyway), but the Chicken Jr. has more than the similar offerings of the competition. Completely unique to BK is the Original Chicken Sandwich, introduced in 1978. The size of a small sub, it’s 684 calories are still nearly half of what’s coming next.

Burger King’s entrance into the ‘chicken sandwich wars’ came in June of 2021 with the Ch’King line. Besides having a ridiculous name, the Ch’King’s have an insane amount of calories. I’ve never had one, but the only thing I can figure is that the chicken filets are enormous. Available in regular or spicy, they all come with some kind of mayonnaise sauce on a brioche-style bun. The regular versions get pickles, the deluxe get lettuce and tomato. That’s it, yet these sandwiches max out at nearly 1,500 calories.

If you’re not familiar with the Meat Mountain from Arby’s, check out the ingredients: two chicken tenders, turkey, ham, corned beef, brisket, steak, roast beef, pepper bacon, cheddar, and Swiss cheese. This massive meat monster is estimated to be between 1030 and 1275 calories, which is less than the deluxe chicken from Burger King. Go figure.

Lessons Learned:

Like their burgers, the King’s chicken menu has more calories than either McDonald’s or Wendy’s

The Ch’King line has only been around for a few months.

You can make a sandwich with eight kinds of meat and still have less calories than Burger King’s chicken

eric’s opinion:

Oh, I have all kinds of opinions on this one. First, it is absolutely crazy how many calories Ch’Kings have. Imagine ordering a chicken sandwich and later finding out it has 1,500 calories. Also, I would think that BK’s expensive marketing team could have come up with a better name. “Ch’King” is almost as bad as “Chick-Fil-A”. I’m waiting for somebody to open a chicken shop called “Bawk Bawk Burgers”.
