Tom Woodruff Jr. – from Williamsport to Hollywood and Back

Before the CGI abominations of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, somebody had to actually build the suits and act inside them. Meet Tom Woodruff Jr.
He was born in Williamsport, grew up in Loyalsock Township, and went to Lycoming College. You can’t get much more Pennsylvania than that.

To be fair, Tom wasn’t involved in the Alien franchise until 1986’s Aliens, but he has done a whole lot since then. He founded Amalgamated Dynamics with Stan Winston alumni and fellow awesome guy Alec Gillis in 1988. That company has over 150 film credits. More recently, Woodruff designed and built the Pennywise prosthetics for It, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom, and was creature designer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong.

From what I understand, Tom Woodruff Jr. has moved back to PA and has been living in Loyalsock Township since 2019 (which is about an hour from where I am writing this). If I somehow happen to meet this guy at Sheetz or something, I would not be sad. His work is amazing.
